Before we dive into the tutorial this morning, I thought Iâ€
d tell you a bit about myself.
My husband and I have been married for over 8 years and Iâ€m blessed to be a stay at home mom to three wonderful little boys, Kaden & Logan age 5 and Colton who is 6 months old.
After designing commercial use digital scrapbooking resources and hybrid printables for 2 years, I decided to focus my designing exclusively on hybrid templates and cutting files.
Now, I spend my days designing while my twins are in school and crafting with them when they get home. I love being able to share a common love with my children.
Thatâ€s enough about me, letâ€s get crafty!
This morning I thought Iâ€d share a tutorial on some banners my boys and I made last weekend.
The supplies youâ€ll need are:
My Alphabet Banner #2 Temps & Cutting Files Set
White Yarn (or any other string or ribbon to hang the banner with)
Adhesive
Directions:
1. Print/cut desired Alphabet Banner #2 templates on your favorite scrap paper. For this tutorial I used the base file, the blank file and selected letters. I cut the base file on colored paper, the blank file on white paper and the letters on various patterned papers my boys picked out.
Note: Save your scraps! Use those extra cut out letters to create even more crafty goodness!
2. Since my base file was a dark color, I decided to slightly ink and distress the edges to brighten up the colors & add a bit of texture. (It’s hard to tell in the photograph, but I used a white pigment ink to lighten the edges and soft the plain dark background.)
3. To layer the banner we made, I placed the base file on the bottom, the blank file in the middle and the letter file on top. Using the blank file is completely optional. I used it specifically to make the letter pop and not fade/blend in with the dark background.
4. After all files are cut and altered, lay out the banner to check how the colors and patterns coordinate if using more than one color and/or pattern.
5. String your banner together. You do not need to use adhesive to hold this banner together but you can if you choose to. I opted not to use any adhesive since we change our colors and decorations in our house with the seasons.
(Wouldn’t it be fun to make another patriotic banner for the 4th of July or a spooky banner for Halloween? By not using adhesive you can easily reuse some of these papers.)
6. If needed, adhere the cut out holes of the letters that require them. (ie. a, b, d, e, g, o, p and q.
7. Hang your banner and admire the great job you did!
